Bicycle Rentals for accessing the Kalapana lava viewing area and much more!
We welcome you to the Big Island of Hawaii. Our volcanoes built our Island and continue to shape it today. The Kilauea Volcano is the most active volcano in the world. It has been continuously erupting since 1983. Since 2007 a surface lava flow from the Kilauea volcano has been flowing in the East Rift Zone, where surface lava flows are actively flowing out of the Puʻu ʻŌʻō vent. The current flow has reached the ocean in Kamoamoa. It can be viewed from our Kalapana viewing area.
The Lava is flowing…
Kaimu Rentals was the original Lava Flow bike rental shop. We are still native Hawaiian owned. We are here to offer bicycle rentals to make the roughly 4 mile/7 km journey, each way, a faster and more enjoyable way to reach the Lava Flow viewing area. By bike it takes about 30 minutes to ride out and 40 minutes to ride back into the parking area. This varies person to person. We are conveniently located on the right hand-side of Hwy 130 in the lava viewing parking area.

See Hawaii Adventures is more than just a new name! We now offer comfortable Van SHUTTLE Service! You can add it to any bike reservation for only $20 per person. We will bring you and your bikes a little over half way out to the Lava Flow viewing area. You can then ride the bikes in and out the rest of the way. You can also choose to reserve a seat on the shuttle for $30 per person and then hike in and out the rest of the way. Either way take your time and enjoy the Lava Flow. You can get on the Shuttle at the same place we dropped you off. Meet us at the drop off / pick up area and we will give you a ride back to our bike shop. This price is for a round trip! So with the Shuttle a roughly 8 mile round trip becomes 3 miles! Shuttles are available from 4 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Visiting the lava flow is both spectacular and risky. Volcanic fumes are hazardous to your health, and persons at risk of respiratory problems, heart problems, pregnant women, infants and elderly people are discouraged to engage in this activity. It is recommended that you wear closed toe shoes such as walking shoes or hiking boots.
